At Sustainable Dynamics we provide our customers the opportunity to synergize Microsoft Dynamics AX and sustainability goals. With fully integrated tools and extensions, we make it easier for you to track your carbon footprint, capture Life Cycle Assessment data, and meet Global Reporting Initiative and ISO14000 requirements. Measure and monitor your Corporate Social Responsibility activities within the most powerful, simple and agile ERP solution on the market today and at the same time, meet the disclosure demands of legislators and lobby groups, shareholders and suppliers, your customers and community.
Through our innovative and practical approach we give your organization the tools to model your processes, collect data, measure your impact and manage your performance.
MODEL YOUR PROCESSES
Based on the product category rules that support life cycle assessment, Sustainable Dynamics’ solution allows you to model the relationship between business inputs and processes and their environmental impacts – leveraging from established transactional support systems within the ERP. Enhancements include:
- Impact driver identification.
- Workflow design mapping impacts from inputs through processes, from purchasing and storage, to production, shipping and distribution.
COLLECT YOUR DATA
Dynamics AX is configured so that you can collect environmental impact data throughout your business processes and at various levels of aggregation. Operational capture helps improve data quality and provides information for operational decision support. It also means data collection is more efficient and cost effective as it extends the value of your investment in ERP. Features include:
- Master data extensions for impacts of materials, labor, resources, customers and suppliers.
- Environmental data collection integrated into the purchasing, production and shipping functions.
- The ability to capture environmental impact attributes of manufacturing inputs (materials, labor, energy, plant) and processes (manufacturing workflow) and collation of those impacts at the finished product level
- Non-financial output measurements (waste, emissions) mapped through the production process
- Conversion factor support for emissions data
- Standards versus actual data capture
- Web services integration with external systems
MEASURE YOUR IMPACT
You can’t manage what you can’t measure. With the impacts defined within your processes, and the ability to measure them dynamically you get enhanced visibility of impacts as they occur through the process. Impact reporting is available in a variety of formats including:
- An environmental manager’s Role Center.
- Online analytical processing (OLAP) cube with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for materials consumption, recycled content, water consumption, energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, toxic material usage and waste.
MANAGE YOUR PERFORMANCE
Dynamics AX gives you the essential insight needed to support decisions, evaluate your performance, and report to your stakeholders. The ability to identify the impact of your choices of supplier, of raw materials, of production process workflow, of shipping and distribution is at the core of system enhancements built. Decision support includes:
- The ability to run ‘what if’ scenarios to explore the potential impacts of reduction efforts or changes to existing processes.
- Compliance reporting output.
- Integration with business intelligence tools.
- Operational Decision support portals
Roadmap to Sustainability
Sustainable Dynamics has taken a world class ERP and built into it the functionality that supports the measurement needs of a world class sustainable business.
We enhance Microsoft Dynamics AX to meet your organization environmental reporting requirements, with integrated features to support Global Reporting Initiative reporting, Life Cycle Assessment and other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) drives sustainability reporting by all organizations. GRI produces the world’s most comprehensive Sustainability Reporting Framework to enable greater organizational transparency. The Framework, including the Reporting Guidelines, sets out the Principles and Indicators organizations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance. GRI is committed to continuously improving and increasing the use of the Guidelines, which are freely available to the public.
Sustainable Dynamics utilize the GRI Framework in our Sustainability Reporting work, which is supported by knowledge obtained from the GRI Certified Sustainability Reporting Course and practical experience. We have GRI trained consultants working with our clients to incorporate the GRI reporting framework into their Microsoft Dynamics AX system.
Microsoft Dynamics AX – Sustainability Dashboard
With the Environmental Sustainability Dashboard within Dynamics AX, companies can capture impact data through their everyday business processes. Tracked data can then be analyzed for trends taking them beyond operational measurement, into management for strategic decision making. The Dashboard enables companies to view costs associated with their current energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, giving them visibility into opportunities for cost reductions translating to the (triple) bottom line. Auditable data on four of the core environmental performance indicators identified by the GRI for energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions are collected, including direct on-premise fuel consumption and the carbon footprint of their power usage with utilities and other vendors.
The Environmental Sustainability Dashboard has earned the certification of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). This certification means that the Dashboard is compliant with the GRI’s Certified Software and Tools Program reporting standards, so companies using the Dashboard are not only encouraged to report, they can rest assured that their reports are compliant with the GRI’s standards. The Dashboard is one of only four technology products to have received this certification (as of Sept 2010), and is the only solution specifically designed with mid-sized organizations in mind. Sustainable Dynamics have ERP consultants trained in GRI reporting to ensure that GRI reporting is understood and catered for as part of your ERP implementation project.
Life Cycle Assessment
Sustainable Dynamics has incorporated the foundation for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) measure collection into Microsoft Dynamics AX, allowing you to start building your own LCA data for Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) labeling. Life Cycle Assessment aims to evaluate the environmental aspects of a product or a service from cradle to grave. It provides an ideal foundation for a company to measure their environmental impacts as it has the scope to meet the growing demands for impact reporting – from broadest to most stringent – vendor scorecards through GRI to EPD labeling.
In the US, large retailers are now asking suppliers for environmental impact information on the products they put on their shelves. Initiatives are underway to offer their customer cleaner, greener products. In Europe, products carry the U.K.’s Carbon Trust “C” symbol to indicate they disclose a carbon footprint, while grocery stores make it clear which products are air-freighted to their location as their carbon footprint is negatively affected. In France providing your product with an Environmental Product Declaration is already a legal requirement, with the rest of Europe soon to follow suit. For exporters into the EU, the ability to incorporate LCA data into your ERP system makes sense.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Demands of our global economy have positioned Corporate Social Responsible (CSR) business practices as a primary emblem of a successful business. Through Microsoft Dynamics AX your organization can produce annual reports that cover Sustainable Development and CSR issues (“Triple Bottom Line Reports”). Managing and measuring CSR through Microsoft Dynamics AX includes tracking human rights, employee diversity, health and safety, labor relations, environment impacts, and risk management. Potential business benefits include aiding recruitment and retention of skilled employees, managing risks and protecting your corporate reputation.
